The Illawarra Legal Centre (ILC) will now offer free legal advice to residents of the Southern Highlands.

Located next to Vinnies, the ILC will operate from the St Vincent de Paul Moss Vale office once a fortnight on Tuesday between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm starting from March 9.

Solicitor Ian Turton said the ILC could help with tenancy, Centrelink, employment and other civil legal matters.

"The ILC is open to all Southern Highland residents and is not means tested," he said.

"People can ring up or make an appointment via Vinnies."

Mr Turton thanked St Vincent de Paul, CommunityLinks and Wingecarribee Shire Council for their support.

President of the St Vincent de Paul Moss Vale Conference Brian Wilson said hoped the partnership with the ILC would be "the start of good relations going forward."

"Many in the community who have been challenged by daily events, landlords, and government services need access to services like this to help with these issues," he said.

"It's a very important day for the Southern Highlands and we are delighted to be associated with the ILC.

"If we do well, this could become a permanent fixture."

Principle solicitor at ILC Phillip Dicalfas said the ILC received funding from the Bushfire Relief grant and found the Southern Highlands was in need of its services.

"There's legal centres in Wollongong and Campbelltown but not in this area," he said.

"We are looking forward to Judi and company coming here every fortnight to assist residents," he said.

Solicitor Judi Teesdale said they had already received half a dozen referrals.

"We give advice and refer people to other in the legal profession that can help," she said.

"We can help with tenancy, financial counselling, general law, welfare but we don't help with criminal law."

The Illawarra Legal Centre is an independent, not-for-profit, community based legal centre.
