The review is in a bid to provide the local design and construction industry with greater consistency, clarity and up to date industry practices.
The revised Engineering Design and Construction Specifications and associated Development Control Plan (DCP) Amendments came into effect on January 1 with a transition period in place until March 31, 2021.
Council's Manager of Assets, Stace Lewer, explained the purpose of the review.
"Developers, engineers and civil contractors often undertake construction works that upon completion will be
handed over to Council as public infrastructure assets," he said.
"It's therefore imperative that any assets that will ultimately be transferred to Council are not only consistent but also meets industry specifications."
As part of the review Council has aligned itself with Aus-Spec which is industry recommended and supported by the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA).

At the Ordinary Meeting of Council on December 9, 2020, Councillors resolved to remove all engineering specifications from Council's DCPs to avoid any unnecessary duplication.
During the three-month transition period the applicant can nominate whether Development Applications, Construction Certificates, Subdivision Works Certificate applications, S68 and S138 applications are assessed under either the superseded specifications or the newly updated Council Engineering Design and Construction Specifications.
Applications lodged on or after April 1, 2021 will be assessed based on the amended DCPs and revised engineering design and construction specifications.
