Now his game has been noticed by the Greater Illawarra Zone.
Robertoson's Mason King has been accepted to the Greater Illawarra Open team to compete in the Country Championships.
King will look to make the most of his time and is excited about the new opportunities the selection has now presented.
"Initially I was part of the bowling development squad," King said.
"I was hoping to get some more experience training with the top cricketers in my zone.
"To get the call up after bowling to the batting order honestly came as a bit of a shock.
"I was thrilled to be invited to the tournament, to not only showcase my ability, but to also learn from older players and coaches."
A proud Robertson resident, King is excited to represent his local club that he loves.
"Growing up in Robertson the cricket club has always had a reputation of being welcoming to anyone who'd liked to play and has in particular gone above and beyond in helping to develop its junior players," King said.
"Most of my mates have been playing for years, so for me it was something I'd always wanted to try and once I did, I realised I should have started sooner.
'I'm proud to be representing not only the Greater Illawarra zone, but also my home club Robertson.
"I owe a lot to the club and president Aaron DeJager.
"They've helped shape me into the player and young man I am today through countless hours of training and games always pushing me to improve.
"To represent my club and all the players that within it is an honour."
Taking what he's learnt, King is committed to the game of cricket and wants to continually improve his game and one day give back to the game.
"I knew the cricket at this tournament was going to be a step up in terms of difficulty and quality and I came into it eager to learn," King said.
"These opportunities don't come often.
"I want to take away as much as I could to improve my own game and develop as a both a player and as a future team leader."
