But with the help of family and friends and the support of former federal member of parliament, businessman Warwick Smith, and his associates, along with local landscapers Miclan, both have been restored.
With their new studio and work shed almost finished, Del and Durwood Cooley hosted an open day on Saturday, November, 14 at their property, an opportunity to say thanks to all those who helped.
With her studio back up and running, Del has been busy painting and also had an exhibition of her trademark oils, depicting the magnificent Highlands skies and landscapes on show.
More than 200 people turned up to see Del's work and the beautiful Jean Flora Garden.
She presented Mr Smith with an original painting 'Recovery' as a thank you for helping get the lives of herself and husband Durwood back on track.
