The decision was made to cancel the 2020 event, which was scheduled to take place on Thursday, December 10 at Bradman Oval.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting government restrictions and regulations on large outdoor gatherings, event director Irma Le Roux said they decided to call off this year's event.
"My biggest sadness is that it's one of those opportunities to create community memories. And a lot of kids look forward to it each year," she said.
"The spirit of the event is that everyone can come."
Bowral Family Carols has previously partnered with the Barbara May Foundation to help raise awareness of the work the foundation does in Africa to improve maternal healthcare.
Ms Le Roux said they encouraged the Highlands community to continue to support the foundation despite the fact the carols were unable to go ahead this year.
"We've supported them for a very long time. It's a shame we can't do that this year."
Last year's event also raised funds for the firefighters and local fire brigades.
"It [the carols] really does do a lot of good," Ms Le Roux said.
