Benny's Custom Works owner-operator Ben Neal has fixed and donated 11 vehicles to those who were affected by the summer bushfires.
This included single parents, families and individuals from the Southern Highlands, South Coast and the Hunter region.
"Everyone was over the moon receiving the cars," he said.
"It helped them get some normality and get their independence back."
Mr Neal said he wanted to utilise his skills as a qualified mechanic to help after the summer bushfires.
"Basically I had a look at the situation and I didn't have a way to contribute as far as firefighting," he said.
"I thought 'what skills do I have to offer?'. I'm a qualified mechanic so I came up with the idea of doing up cheap cars."
Initially the goal was to fix five cars for $5000. However Mr Neal ended up with 11 cars for $7000.
He was supported with donations of money, parts and transportation from Hayes Cranes, Veloce Supercar Transport and and Spares Box.
The community also rallied around Mr Neal's project and donated cars.
"We have a good social media presence and we were lucky to use that. I think we turned around three to four cars in the first week," he said.
Most of the donated cars only required a minor service and a check over, as Mr Neal had received "quite good cars" in the first place.
Mr Neal said the cause was close to his heart.
"My grandfather lost his vehicles in 2002 fires. They were mostly vintage cars that he restored himself. I saw how he suffered through that," he said.
"I see the struggles people are dealing with [after the recent summer bushfires]. The fires went for so long and there was so much destruction.
"I personally know people who lost garages. I've got friends who live to the northern end of Hill Top. Both had significant fire damage [on their properties] but both of their homes were saved."
