The phenomenon requires particular water droplet and ice crystal formations at particular altitudes.
In this case there was some thin lower cloud to add variety.

The previous occasion the moon produced this show was May 6. It could be seen in the Eastern Sky.
The term corona means 'crown', which describes the halo effect in the lower clouds from the light of the moon.
Generally this sight is most often seen in late autumn and winter months, which is what we have had this year.
But it might be years before there is another occurrence.
