NSW Fire and Rescue has opened applications for permanent firefighters.
FRNSW is looking for people with different skills and capabilities, outside of the traditional firefighter role.
Duties can include fire prevention and investigation, community education, storm and flood recovery and basic first aid.
Permanent firefighters also recover and manage hazardous materials, respond to rescue calls, carry out building inspections, clean fire equipment and maintain fire stations.
Firefighters are expected to maintain good health and physical fitness.
Recruits will also undertake regular training and study to maintain skills and knowledge.
Firefighters often operate in stressful situations, particularly when people are injured or threatened with injury.
When attending an incident, firefighters may be required to comfort victims or advise the public to stay clear of the area.
Firefighting is physically and psychologically demanding, especially during major emergencies, and involves quick thinking, team work and endurance.
Applications close on Sunday, August 9 at 11.59pm.
