And forecasts predict the Storm will be unleashed this weekend.
After a delayed debut 2020 season for the Southern Highland Storm, the club have received confirmation that this weekend, Saturday, August 1, 2020 the mighty purple will run wild.
Southern Highland Storm president, Matthew Burke says the club just can't wait to get out there.
"It's really exciting to be honest," Burke said.
"It's been a big year for the Storm and it's exciting to be getting back on the paddock, the kids are pumped."
Hoping to come out of the blocks with good, solid wins for all teams is definitely an aspiration for the club, but it's not what's most important for now.
"We'd love some wins, but most important to us, the kids will be playing footy," Burke said.
"Whatever happens this weekend, we'll be fine with.
"With all the restrictions around training, a lot of teams will be under-prepared. Just seeing the team playing again is what we're most excited for this weekend."
The competition was set to begin in July, but due to reemerging COVID cases, the games were delayed till August. Training was allowed for parts of the extended lockout and the Storm took advantage of that opportunity.
"We were looking good at training," Burke said.
"We got 98 per cent of our players back after that extended lockout, so that was fantastic. We'll be siding the same teams we were scheduled to be.
"The first week we weren't allowed to train at all. Second week we could have non-contact training and this week heading into the games, we were allowed to have full contact training again."
There are plans for a style of play the Storm would like to implement, but for now it's all about getting out there and playing the game they all love.
"We do have a brand of footy we want to play, but it's a bit hard at the moment (laughs)," Burke said.
"We're all about giving players an opportunity to play in a grade that suits their abilities. We just want our players to go out there and play tough, but fair and have fun. We know they will."
Storm seniors will be playing at Oran Park against the Chargers at Wayne Gardner Reserve at 6pm.
Storm juniors will be playing for the first ever time against Narellan at Community Oval in Moss Vale.
Junior's Friday Night Footy will also kick off next Friday, August 7. Players are encouraged to return.
