But it is something Highlanders will get the chance to experiment with this weekend.
Artist and teacher Tracey Miller will hold an Ink on Yupo workshop at The Bowral Art Gallery.
"You can't control it like you can control paint. That's the beauty of it," she said.
"It is a very relaxing process."
Alcohol ink is a highly pigmented and quick-drying medium applied by pouring, brushing or stamping on a non-porous surface such as Yupo.
The vibrant colours intermingle creating unique textural effects, often leading to unexpected results.
With the Bowral Art Gallery shut from April due to the COVID pandemic, Tracey said she had just recently been able to start up classes and workshops again.
Numbers for these classes and workshops will be limited to ensure proper social distancing.
"We've got a very large room which is fantastic."
The Ink on Yupo workshop will be held on Sunday, August 2 from 10am until 4pm with all materials supplied.
Following Sunday's workshop, Tracey's next one will be on August 16.
It will be a be a workshop for beginners.
"It will be a taster to give people an idea of the different materials they can use," Tracey said.
The workshop will explore materials and techniques using graphite, willow charcoal, pastel, paint and collage.
