And although Premier Daniel Andrews believes it's too soon to be asking what's next, he was today upbeat about some facts.
Numbers don't appear to be going down, he said, but there's no exponential growth either. That is, cases aren't doubling and then doubling again every couple of days.
"That's quite a significant achievement in the first two weeks but of course we have to see those numbers better than what they are now, we have to see that stability maintained and then we need to start driving them down," Mr Andrews said.
Active infections continue to be recorded in regional Victoria - in Golden Plains and Colac - while in NSW locally acquired cases hit double figures, including a case in Wollongong.
There's good news also for Tasmania where, after the first case in two months, authorities have said the patient poses little risk to the community and is in hotel quarantine.
With Victorians in hotspots having to wear masks from Thursday or face a $200 fine, the question also is being asked elsewhere. And yes, we're looking at you, Gladys Berejiklian.
But the NSW Premier has refused to follow Victoria's lead by enforcing mask use in public - YET - but urged that people wear masks where social distancing was impossible.
Indoor venues, she said, were of particular concern and will come under greater scrutiny.
"This can get away from us very quickly which is why I'd rather everyone do the right thing now while we can still be in a position to control the spread," she said.
NSW will from Wednesday enforce tougher border restrictions for people wanting to enter the state from Victoria, with a border zone to be set up along the Murray River and outstanding travel permits to be cancelled.

If you're thinking of going the other way and crossing into South Australia, perhaps follow the guidelines or expect a holiday at Her Majesty's pleasure. The the government introduced legislation to parliament to include a two-year jail term for offenders.
Which, who knows, might be next for Spain. They're experiencing a three-fold increase in cases over the last three weeks. More than 4500 new cases appeared over the weekend.
And in a move that seems hauntingly familiar, after relaxing restrictions the Catalan regional government urged people to stay at home and screwed down limits on restaurants and bars again. There's something about the social in "social distancing" that seems difficult to understand around the world.
