L'Étape Australia by Tour de France, is a Tour de France cycling event that will take place on November 28, 2020 and bring 10,500 visitors to the region.
The event provides amateur riders with the closest experience to riding in the Tour de France they can get.
The 2020 route will start from Kiama and travel through the South Coast, the Shoalhaven and the Southern Highlands.
The distance is 136km and the elevation 2,770m.
Towns that will see action include: Robertson, Burrawang, Avoca, Fitzroy Falls, as well as areas affected on the routes to Jamberoo and Kangaroo Valley/Berry.
Southern Highlands Cycling Club's president Zac Hulm can't wait till November.
"I'm really excited L'Étape have chosen the Southern Highlands," Hulm said.
"It's a really exciting opportunity for Highland riders to get this type of challenge.
"The safety of closed roads will give us a Tour de France style and feel and it will all be done in a safe way.
"This cements the Southern Highlands as a cycling destination."
L'Étape Australia is organised on fully closed roads and will have an impact on local traffic on the day of the event.
In an effort to engage with the local residents and local businesses, event organisers have create a Local Community Facebook group (until they can organise face-to-face meetings) to share information and answer any question you may have.
An online presentation will take place on Wednesday, July 22 at 5:30pm.
All local residents and local business owners are invited to join the group and invite their fellow local residents and local business owners to do so.
The group can be found at this address www.facebook.com/groups/619203831959644/ or by looking up "L'Étape Australia local community group" on Facebook.
