Located on the corner of Old South and Kangaloon Roads, Bowral, the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens is a community attraction that has evolved over the past decade.
Overseen by a group of eager volunteers the gardens now boasts a new children's playgrounds and picnic shelter, pathways meandering around various themed gardens, a Labrynthe etched into the lawn, a nursery and more.
The SHBG board currently has its sights set on the construction of an education centre, which would cost about $650,000 to complete.
The project is shovel ready with a development application approved.
Other projects in the pipeline include a visitors' centre, amphitheatre and the establishment of an endangered ecological community featuring feature plants that would have originally grown on the property now occupied by the Botanic Gardens.
The Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens is open to the public seven days from 9am to 5pm.
The botanic gardens nursery, also located on the property and featuring plants grown in the gardens, is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday each week, weather permitting.
