The AFL team will make UOW its high-performance training base for approximately two weeks.
The team arrived in Wollongong in the early hours of Sunday morning and aims to utilise ovals, the pool and UOW's High Performance Training Area, which is home to NSW Institute of Sport athletes and other high-performance sporting teams.
The Sports Hub is one of the region's largest and most versatile multipurpose indoor sports facilities.
It provides the Illawarra and South Coast communities with a modern well-equipped sports arena suitable to host a wide range of activities from sporting events to trade fairs.
UOW Vice Chancellor, Professor Paul Wellings CBE said UOW was excited to host the Gold Coast Suns on campus and to offer world-class training facilities to the team.
"UOW welcomes the team and thanks the players for their constant support and dedication to strictly adhering to the AFL's rigid health and training procedures during these challenging times," Wellings said.
"These modern facilities are a testament to the fact that UOW is consistently supporting great athletes by providing world-class training environment and support."
The University considers health and safety of students, staff and community as its utmost priority.
All the physical activities on campus are performed under strict health and safety requirements charted in UOW's COVID safe plan.
