The first kind looks at a fuel gauge when it's half-full and thinks "I need to fill up my tank".
The second kind looks at a near-empty fuel gauge and thinks "I can make it to my next destination".
If you live life on the edge like the latter, you may want to re-think this approach in July.
The twin 7-Eleven service stations on the Hume Highway at Pheasants Nest will be closed from Wednesday, July 1 to Sunday, August 2.
The service stations will re-brand into Caltex/Ampol stations during this time.
Transport for NSW southern regional director Jo Parrott said there would temporarily be no access to the shops or re-fuelling facilities at both north and southbound service centres.
"Toilet facilities and limited parking will remain open during the temporary closure of these services while the remainder of the site will be fenced off and closed," Ms Parrott said.
The closest petrol stations to the southbound service centre for vehicles travelling south are the Shell Service Station at Wilton Road, Wilton, located five kilometres north and the Shell Service Station, Old Hume Highway, Balaclava, located 23 kilometres south.
The closest rest area for vehicles travelling southbound on the Hume Highway is located just south of the Bargo off ramp at Yanderra.
The closest petrol stations to the northbound service centre for vehicles travelling north are the BP Service Station at Remembrance Driveway, Bargo, located seven kilometres south and Douglas Park Service Station at Camden Rd, Douglas Park, located 13 kilometres north.
The closest rest area for vehicles travelling northbound on the Hume Highway is at Berrima.
The Shell Highway Services Centre is the nearest dual access facility for both northbound and southbound vehicles and is located 52 kilometres south of the Pheasants Nest Highway Services Centre on the Hume Highway in Sutton Forest.
Ms Parrott said the shop and re-fuelling facilities would re-open from Monday, August 3 until redevelopment commences.
"The redevelopment work will be staged to minimise impact on customers and the broader community, who will be advised of the redevelopment work in advance of the work occurring," Ms Parrott said.
"The new highway service centres on both the north and southbound sides will incorporate a modern innovative design that offers a range of re-fuelling and rest facilities that meet varied customer needs."
A Caltex spokesperson said the company had started work with Transport for NSW to take on the operation of the two service centres.
"The sites will close temporarily over the next week so transition can occur, with the sites to reopen under the Caltex brand in early August," the spokesperson said.
"We continue to work closely with Transport for NSW on long-term redevelopment plans, including on a potential transition to the new Ampol brand.
"Further updates will be provided to the community over the coming months."
The popular Krispy Kreme doughnuts will not be available at the new Pheasants Nest twin service stations, as 7-Eleven is one of the confectionery company's wholesalers.
Redevelopment work is expected to be completed by early 2022.
