Two friends that have corresponded through letters for almost their entire lives.
It is their story that the Highlands Theatre Group will tell in its upcoming production Love Letters.
The play follows the pair throughout their correspondence and occasional meetings.
With a small cast and minimalist stage settings, the script is central to telling the story in this production.
The pair sit down and read their letters to each other in what will be an intimate experience for the audience.
With the cast and crew excited to be back up and running, it will also be a special time for Leilani van Diemen, who will make her directorial debut with Love Letters.
Leilani is on the Highlands Theatre Group Committee and has been involved with the group for many years.
She has been an assistant director- most recently with the production Ladies in Black. She was part of the stage crew for Anne of Green Gables and was on stage in Sound of Music.
"I've always wanted to [direct]. When I was offered this one I was very excited, I jumped on it.
"I love drama, I love people and I love being able to [share] my knowledge."
The production has two sets of cast with Mark Wallace and Stephen Wheatley playing Andrew and Jacinta Perry and Rebecca Howarth as Melissa.
"They pretty much are a part of each other's lives even if they don't see each other for a couple of years," Leilani said.
"It's their life story. I feel like everyone's going to connect someone to it."
Leilani said she was nervous about her debut with such a central focus to the production, but also enjoyed working with a small crew.
"It's going to be so focused but I really hope that people can listen to the words because it's the script that sells the show," she said.
"The cast is amazing and the way they do it is amazing but it's the storyline that sells the show as well. There's more work on the characters which I really like."
Originally scheduled to take place in May, the COVID shut down meant the production was postponed and opening night will now be September 4.
The play will be held at Gibraltar Park in Bowral.
Performances will be held on September 4, 5, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 at 7.30pm and on September 5, 6, 12, 13 and 19 at 2pm.
Tickets will be on sale from July 13.
