The language has been taught at the school for more than 20 years and this year, new teacher Samantha Combes is coming to the fold.
Chevalier College media and communications officer Debra Cloran said everyone was excited with the new addition.
"She brings a wealth of experience from teaching positions across New South Wales in both regional and metropolitan schools," Ms Cloran said.
"Settling into her new role has been an exciting time for 'Combes sensai' and fellow teaching staff Leah Robertson and Bruce Woods at the school, where a deeper focus on Japanese language studies has enriched the learning experiences for students this year.
"Japanese studies have relocated to refreshed classrooms filled with learning resources and attractive Japanese decor, including a special gift from a past student."
"Cross-faculty projects are also planned for the exterior of the new space, with Art Enrichment students creating a Hokusai-wave mural; while Year 10 Design and Technology students have been inspired to install a Japanese garden."
Some aspects of Japan students will study include popular culture such as anime, manga, music and fashion, as well as its rich cultural tradition.
They will also be able to enrich their experiences through a range of international programs like traveling to Japan as part of a long standing relationship the school enjoys with sister school in Kyoto, Murasakino High School.
There are also digital classroom connections planned between the two schools to give the students the best and most authentic opportunities.
Ms Combes had some advice for students to gain the most out of their learning.
"To all students of a language, practice a little bit every day," Ms Combes said.
"Listen to the music, watch the movies and read the books.
"It all helps to keep it fresh."
