Southern Highlands Police officer-in-charge Inspector John Klepczarek said dozens of people pulled over in the past few months had the impression police were no longer conducting breath tests.
The inspector said at the start of the COVID-19 situation police stopped stationary RBT and only carried out mobile breath tests.
He said while they had ceased "pulling cars over on mass" drink driving laws were still enforced.
"We've still been arresting a number of people for drink driving with mobile breath testing."
At the start of the month stationary breath testing resumed.
Inspector Klepczarek said carrying out breath tests was a part of the Hume Police District's weekend duties.
"People will start to see [random breath tests] more and more."
The inspector had a message for drink drivers: "it is only a matter of time until you're caught."
"Drink driving puts other people's lives at risk," he said.
