Sturt officials advise that in accordance with government guidelines, number limits will be in place, as well as hand sanitisation and distance markers, to ensure that people maintain their social distance and stay safe.
The team extends well wishes to all fellow arts organisations, individual artists and makers in the Southern Highlands and beyond for a speedy return to normal operation as "we collectively begin to recover from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic."
Weekly classes in woodwork, jewellery/metalwork, weaving and ceramics will restart at the beginning of term 3, commencing July 20 and renewals will be going out to students very soon.
In the meantime the Sturt team has been working behind the scenes over the past few weeks in order to have a new exhibition up and running on the first day of re-opening.
'A circle of makers' is the title of the new exhibition showcasing the talents of Sturt's creative community.
On March 24, in the 79th year of operation, Sturt's creative program and classes stopped and all planned exhibitions were cancelled.
As Sturt emerges from a global crisis that has impacted every aspect of a normal way of living for so many people, the Sturt team has taken the opportunity to recognise all the artists and tutors who contribute to its artistic community.
Artists who make, sell, teach or mentor across all the Frensham school campuses of Frensham, Gib Gate and Sturt are showcased in a new exhibition that is an all-inclusive celebration and 'salon' style epic featuring furniture, ceramics and jewellery as well as painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and more.
Now the people of the Highlands are invited to join in the celebration of the diversity and strength of community's artists.
The Sturt team assures there will be something for everyone and now, more than ever, artists need support through sales of work as they return determinedly to a 'new' normal.
Among the exhibitors are:
- Furniture from Ian Bromley, Eliza Mansell, Steve Giannuzzi, Peter Young
- Paintings and prints by Sue Meredith, Phoebe Middleton, Sara Farmer, Slavica Zivkovic, Phil Alldis
- Photographs by Sophie Piper
- Ceramics by Simon Bowley, Tracey Mitchell, Louise Boscacci
