On the brink of closing due to COVID-19 regulations Jack was overwhelmed by the outpouring support he received from the community.
Coronavirus update:
The campaign to support Jack and his restaurant began when Highland FM station manager Adam Stokeld spotted Jack with his head on a table.
This led to a social media post which snowballed in to a community wide campaign to support a man who has supported the community for more than 30 years.
And Jack has nothing but praise for Adam, the man who reached out and help make a difference.
"He saved my life," Jack said about Adam.
"My life has been reborn again, I'm so happy.
"The radio station and Adam have changed my life. He's amazing.
"Everybody should support our local businesses and radio station."
Without the support from the Southern Highlands community, Jack would have been forced to close his business down.
"It was so bad, business was down by 70 - 80 per cent," he said. "It was a big drop. I didn't have enough money to pay rent or pay staff."
However after an ad written by Adam was played over the radio, Jack saw his business boom once more and Saturday April 4 became his biggest trading night in 23 years.
"It's been very busy, it's almost back to normal," he said.
A little known fact about Jack is his generous heart.
This year Jack supported RFS crews as they battled bushfires across the Highlands, with free meals delivered to station sheds at Hill Top, Colo Vale, Bowral, Avoca, Moss Vale and more.
"I love to give back to the community and never want anything back in return," he said.
"That's why nobody knows what I do. I never let anyone know what I'm doing."
Highland FM station manager Adam Stokeld was inspired to help Jack after he saw Jack slumped over table one night.
"My heart just melted for him," he said. "I just thought I'm going to do something for him.
"I got home and I wrote an advertisement for him and sent it to our production manager at 11:15 pm at night.
"There has been a lot of kindness and love for Jack extended through Highland FM. It really shows the Aussie spirit."
Adam said that he was "totally surprised" by the response his Facebook post received which has been shared more than 1700 times.
"It's nice for Jack and wonderful for the community as well," he said.
"It's so hard for everyone."
The hospitality industry has been one of the hardest hit due to the COVID-19 regulations.
