Coronavirus update:
The team at Southern Highland News has been working from home for the last three weeks and has provided several tips to get you through the working day when you're stuck at home.
Emily's top tips for working from home:
- Get dressed for work. This will help put you in the headspace to have a productive day.
- Take small, regular breaks. Keep your brain fresh by stopping every once in a while. This will increase your focus when you get back to work.
- Set clear boundaries for work and leisure time. Be fair to your company and yourself with your time.
- Stay connected with your colleagues. Video chat check-ins are best.
- If you're new to working from home, embrace the positives. Have you gained time back by cutting your commute? Is your productivity higher? Can you watch more episodes of The Office (during a break of course) when you're not in your actual office?
- Look after your mind and body. Go for a walk, do some meditation, watch some comedy or hang out with your pets.
Matt's top tips for working from home:
- Wear something comfortable to work from home
- Blast the Beatles and George Harrison albums
- Have your pets near you
- Go for walks
Vera's top tips for working from home:
- Stick to a schedule for the day, i.e wake up, have a breakfast, and try not rolling out of bed and straight in to a video conference.
- Keep a list of tasks you need to do to help you stay focused.
- Be comfortable. Whether it's your pyjamas, activewear, trackies or your work outfit - wear something that will be comfortable for you.
- Go for walks to break up the day and give yourself time to stretch your legs.
- Take breaks and remember to eat lunch.
- Limit your snacking to one small bowl of chips, shapes, or whatever tickles your fancy. It will help make your snacks last longer and reduce visits to the shops.
- Drink lots of water. Constant toilet breaks will mean you get up and walk on a more regular basis.
- Put all your work stuff away at the end of the day to separate work time and home time.
- Let your colleagues know if you need to step out for a period of time and how to contact you if its an emergency.
Jackie's top tips for working from home:
- Always make sure you get dressed as if you are going to the office. It keeps things real.
- Set aside an area specifically for working (an office is great) if at all possible. That way you feel like you are at work, but at the end of the day you walk away from it.
- Make a list of what you want to achieve each day and stick to it.
- Keep moving. It is easy to get stuck at your desk so make sure you stop and go for a walk or step outside for some fresh air several times through the day.
- Try your hardest not to keep working when the work day is over. That can be a challenge at times but try to separate work time from personal time.
