Destination Southern Highlands manager Steve Rosa said the consumer had the power to help small businesses.
The tourism office has modified its Share the Love tourism campaign in response to the current coronavirus situation.
The campaign, which encouraged tourists to visit the Southern Highlands, was started after the recent bushfires in December and January.
"All we can do is encourage local residents to buy local and shop local," Mr Rosa said.

"While you can't go to a restaurant, cafe, club or pub, you can go and purchase an online deal.
"We've negotiated with a lot of our local businesses in this campaign."
Mr Rosa said through the Share the Love campaign, many businesses have also set up gift card programs.
Some of the gift cards don't have an expiry date, while others are valid for up to two years.
"It's going to put cash into the economy to keep businesses afloat," he said.
Southern Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman Steve Horton said businesses should stay up-to-date with the latest government information.
"Business owners and workers alike need to keep in touch with what's happening because it's changing daily," Mr Horton said.
"There are stimulus packages for both workers and shop owners. The Chamber will be sending out documentation as we get it."
Mr Horton said it was also important businesses had a presence online and on social media.
"I'm currently creating a Facebook shop. Businesses need to have some form of online presence. It doesn't take much to set up," he said.
He also said it was important to show your products on apps like Instagram.
