Among the current cancelled or postponed events are:
Singalong
Singalong
A singalong scheduled to be held at Mittagong Uniting Church in Albert Street, Mittagong, on March 23 has been cancelled.
Hospital Auxiliary
The Moss Vale Hospital Auxiliary has cancelled all meetings and functions until further notice.
Bushwalkers
Southern Highland Buskwalkers Inc has suspended all planned bush walks for the foreseeable future, due to current health risks and concerns.
Blue Light Disco
The Blue Light Disco scheduled for March 28 has been cancelled. Organisers said "we are truly sorry to those families and children who were hoping to have a birthday party this month and are sad we cannot help them celebrate the special occasion."
"This is the first disco in the 35 years Chris and I have been volunteering that a disco has had to be cancelled, a shock to us," spokesperson Sandra Robson said.
"We wont commit to cancelling April and so on at this stage, not sure what path this horrible Corona Virus crisis will take we will go month to month, I will keep you posted."
Roulette production
The production of Roulette, to feature the now grown up and up-and-coming professional actors from SHYAC that was scheduled to open on April 19 at the Hill Top Memorial Hall has been postponed. Organisers are at the stage hoping for it to open on August 2. Those who have already bought a ticket can hold them to use at the re-scheduled date or request a refund.
Southern Highlands Evening CWA
The Southern Highlands Evening Branch CWA NSW wishes to advise members and visitors that it has been decided to cancel the April meeting. The branch hopes to be back for the next meeting on May 7, 2020.
Prancing for Parkinsons
Prancing for Parkinsons, usually held at Baptist Church Hall in Merrigang Street, Bowral ,has been suspended until further notice.
Folk dance
Folk dance classes usually held on Thursdays at the Bowral Presbyterian Church hall, Bendooley St, Bowral, have been suspended.
Writers' Festival
The Southern Highland Writers Festival has been postponed due to restrictions caused by Covid-19.
Normally held in July, the festival will now be held on November 7 - 8 across several venues within the Southern Highlands.
Organiser Michaela Bolzan said she was thrilled that the SHWF wasn't canceled.
"By November I am sure we are all going to be keen to leave our houses and come together and celebrate," she said. The 2020 Program will be announced in September.
Highlands Singers
The Highlands Singers concert planned for May 30 at Bowral Memorial Hall, Bendooley Street, Bowral, has been postponed until later in the year. A spokesperson said "we are meeting after Easter to discuss the way forward and are hoping to hold the concert towards the end of the year."
Anzac Day services
Anzac Day services across the Highlands have been cancelled. The difficult decision to cancel services is inline with the announcement made by RSL NSW. Acting State President Ray James has advised that the risk to the general public and sub-Branches is too great.
Short stories
Short Stories at Annesley on April 18 is cancelled due to the situation with coronavirus.
Royal Society
A lecture to be presented by the Royal Society Southern Highlands branch on March 19 has been cancelled due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19. Branch president Hub Regtop said while people were looking forward to hearing Dr Geordie Williamson deliver his long-awaited lecture "we feel we have no other choice than cancellation."
Dog's day out
A Dog's Day Out scheduled to be held on March 19 at Retford Park, Bowral, has been postponed. Organisers said that due to uncertainty and high-risk factor of the current novel coronavirus (COVID19), the Friends of the Wingecarribee Animal Shelter (FOWAS), in conjunction with National Trust of Australia (NSW), have decided the event is "untenable".
"We're currently in negotiations for the event to be conducted at Retford Park later this year."
Earth hour
Plans to celebrate Earth Hour at the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens have been postponed.The gardens committee was in the process of organising a community celebration at the gardens on March 28. However, SHBG CEO Charlotte Webb has confirmed that the event and sculpture exhibition will be held at "later date" yet to be determined. The Botanic Gardens on the corner of Old South and Kangaloon Roads will continue to be open to the public from 9am to 5pm daily.
Moss Vale Show
The Moss Vale Show committee has cancelled its 2020 event. Volunteers met on Sunday morning to discuss the upcoming show, following Prime Minister Scott Morrison's advice to cancel non-essential gatherings of 500 people from Monday. The Moss Vale Show, due to run from March 20 to 22, will have a closed show with only pavilion entries and judging to limit crowd numbers.
A cattle competition will run on Saturday, followed by an alpaca competition on Sunday. This will only be open to competitors and the judges.
Brigadoon
Brigadoon has been postponed as the Australian Federal Government advise against large mass gatherings amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The event was to be held in Bundanoon on April 4.
Autism Awareness Day
Plans to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day in the Southern Highlands have been cancelled. Interchange Australia and ASDESI (Autism Spectrum Disorder Education, Support and Information) in collaboration with the Kollege of Knowledge Kommittee for Kids (KKKK) and Bradman Museum had planned an "Amazingly Awesome Autism Get-Together" on April 2.
Burrawang Easter Markets
Burrawang Easter Market organisers announced on Facebook that the event scheduled for April 11 had been cancelled. The post said "we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused but as a community, it's important for the people of Burrawang to support all endeavours to mitigate the risk of further spreading the virus. We look forward to seeing you on Easter Saturday 2021."
Mirabella Trio
The Mirabella Trio concert to be held under the Classics at Picton program on March 29 has been cancelled due to the severity of the Coronavirus. Many of the audience are older and in the category that could be impacted by the virus and secondly is the issue of safeguarding the performers. Organisers plan to reschedule this concert for March 2021 and will advise of details in due course. All other concerts for this year are to run as scheduled at this stage.
Symphony orchestra
The Southern Highlands Symphony Orchestra Inc. (SHSOI) Board has been monitoring the COVID 19 instructions from the Health Department and advisors on a daily basis and, with regret, it has been decided that the Series One Concerts must be cancelled. This decision has not been made lightly. Organisers said they were "disappointed not to be performing this great program but priority must be given to the safety of our musicians and audiences." They willl endeavour to schedule these works in future concerts.
Poetry on Piano
The Anton Koritni "Poetry on Piano" show scheduled for March 28 has been cancelled.
JP desks
Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic situation the Justice of the Peace service desks located at Mittagong, Bowral, Moss Vale, and Robertsonwill be suspend until further notice. As the majority of the JP volunteers are in the 'Most Vulnerable' age group it has been decided to suspend these public services. Independent JP's may assist on a 'one on one' basis at their discretion. To locate a local JP try an internet search "Find a NSW JP".
