Moruya man Isaac Rozs appeared before Goulburn Local Court in custody on Thursday afternoon, charged with special aggravated break and enter with wounding.
Mr Rozs' lawyer Rodney Boyd applied for conditional bail.
Mr Boyd argued strict bail conditions could mitigate concerns, therefore Mr Rozs' detention "would not be justified".
Mr Boyd also mentioned Mr Rozs had several mental illnesses which he was medicated for.
The bail application was refused by Magistrate David Williams, who referenced the severity of the charges Mr Rozs faces.
"If he's convicted, he faces a very long jail sentence," Magistrate Williams said.
Mr Rozs will appear in Moss Vale Local Court via audio visual link on Tuesday, May 19.
A brief will be served by Wednesday, May 6.
