In the A grade competition Polar Bears and Sharks were winners. Polar Bears continued their winning streak with a win over Horton's Heroes 8-5.
The Polar Bears had a great first half taking a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter set up the win for Polar Bears, as they came out with a four goal scoring blitz, to Horton's Heroes solo goal and establish a 6-2 half time lead.
Scott McClean scoring 3 of the Bears first half goals was proving hard to handle. Horton's Heroes steadied in the third period to make it a 1-1 quarter and go into the final quarter trailing 3-7. Horton's Heroes Heroes battled on gamely, they can never be criticised as giving up and they took the final period 2-1, for the final 8-5 score.
Sharks had a good win over Dolphins 5-0. Dolphins were still missing their Wollongong connection and battled against a Sharks team who were keen to get back on a winning track. They did this very effectively against a spirited Dolphin's team, who fought hard.
The Sharks scored unanswered goals in each of the first three quarters before finishing off with two unanswered goals and a 5-0 win.
In B grade, the competition front-runners Oxley Gold, won 9-3 against Dolphins. It wasn't Oxley Gold's smoothest performance but the students certainly had too much class for the Dolphins. Leading 5-1 at half time they were never under threat.
The Dolphins tried hard and put in a better second half scoring two further goals. Oxley Gold posted three further goals in the third period to make it 8-2 going into the final quarter. The last quarter was even at 1-1 but Oxley Gold are looking like the team to beat in the B grade competition.
Horton's Heroes defeated Polar Bears 6-4 to end a streak of wins by the Polar Bears. The Bears were slow to start, as Horton's Heroes posted the first two goals of the match. The second quarter was a better one for them as they came back to score two goals to Horton's one, to bring themselves back into the match at 2-3 at halftime.
Horton's Heroes were playing well and weren't about to let the Bears get away with a come back. The Bears levelled up at 3-3 before Horton's Heroes put their noses in front going into the last quarter leading 4-3. The Polar Bears tied it up with a penalty goal, 4-4, before Horton's Heroes took the lead with a penalty of their own and sealed the match with a late goal 6-4.
With six individual scorers Horton's Heroes have plenty of scoring options.
Smugglers 5 defeated Oxley Blue 4 when they finished the match with a wet sail to take the match.
Oxley Blue fired out of the blocks to take a two goal lead to nil lead at the end of the first quarter. The Smugglers found a way to get back into the game as they posted two second quarter goals to bridge the Oxley Blue lead at 3-2 at halftime.
The Smugglers turned in a great third period to take it 2-0 and hit the lead at 4-3 going into the last quarter. Oxley Gold made it exciting as they levelled up the match 4-4 late in the game.
Smugglers though, found a way to take the match coming through with the winning goal with a minute to play. In an intense last minute both teams had scoring chances but were unable to score again.
