The Regional Fire Service in NSW is the biggest volunteer organisation in the country, so we are told. That huge volunteer base has been in full force over the past six months of horrendous fires and we, in the Wingecarribee Shire, are particularly grateful for their devoted service and huge efforts in our beloved Highlands.

The Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens, also a volunteer organisation, is devoting all the profits from our scheduled Movie Under the Stars event on Saturday, February 15, to the Brigades in the Wingecarribee Shire. Did you know there are 19 brigades in the shire? Some of those fire trucks will be on show on Saturday night at the Garden, just to set the scene and you can mingle with some of the firies.
The movie is the fabulous Hidden Figures, a true story of three African-American women mathematicians who play a pivotal role in the astronaut John Glenn's launch into orbit from NASA in 1961.
Tickets for $20 should be purchased on line at https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=592775&. All tickets for $50 have sold out. Bar facilities and a candy bar will be available, and our volunteers will be scurrying around selling freshly made popcorn. The weather is looking promising but bring suitable clothing and a picnic chair or rug.
Screen hire has been donated for this event. Gates will open at 6pm, the movie starts at 8pm, and we are transferring all the profits directly to the bank account of each brigade, so there are no administration costs. A win for everyone.
