Following from their successful Climate Emergency Rally in the streets of Bowral, local group co-ordinator Scott Gibson said that the only responsible action for council was to declare a climate emergency.
"We are now living in the reality of dangerous climate change as the recent cycles of unprecedented fires and floods have shown," he said.
"The only responsible action for council to take is to face this reality we are living in and to begin the transition of our local area to net zero emissions by 2025 and a sustainable footing so as we may have a future for ourselves and our children.
"The declaration of the climate emergency is the first step to this transition and if passed by council we will begin putting together a panel of experts and a citizens assembly composed of local residents to guide them in the transition of the local area.
"We are hopeful that council will pass this motion and our focus can shift from raising awareness around climate change to the actual transition of the local area so as we are prepared for the challenges of the coming years".
Extinction Rebellion invites all members of the local community to attend the council meeting on February 12.
