This is a result of the biggest downpour of rain in years.
Transport for NSW southern regional director Jo Parrott said she expected the road closed to traffic for the coming days as crews worked hard to repair several issues.
"Blocked drains are being cleared while fallen trees, rocks and soil need to be removed from the road," Ms Parrott said.
"Some road resurfacing will also need to take place before this route can reopen.
"Crews will be on site for at least three days and an assessment will be carried out before traffic is allowed back on the road.
"Transport for NSW understands the inconvenience caused by this closure but urges the community to be patient and to follow the directions of crew and traffic control."
Traffic control is in place at Yellow Rock Road and Tourist Road while this work is carried out.
