Oh, what a night!
FireAid 2020 will long be remembered in the Southern Highlands as the day the community rallied in their thousands in support of the John Waters initiative to help those who have been devastated by fire. He called on his friends and colleagues to provide a pool of talent that would delight and entertain and FireAid 2020 was born.

From the time the show started at 3pm it was clear the crowd was ready to party, and they joined in, singing and dancing along with the performing artists. FireAid 2020 was a monumental success. With over 6000 tickets sold, the huge crowd blanketed the hill, all proceeds from the event which included ticket sales, food, beverage and merchandising going toward the Mayoral Bushfire Appeal. We feel very proud that Highland FM 107.107.1's promotion of the event greatly assisted in drawing such large numbers. Those of us from Highland FM 107.1 who attended were caught up in the atmosphere and had a great time.
HFM media rep Jayce Flaxman conducted interviews with many of the artists including a special interview with HFM broadcast and program manager Warren Barnett and his old friends Leo Sayer and Glen A Baker while HFM O.B manager Tim Lancaster was busy with live crosses to the studio.
Thank you to everyone at Highland FM 107.1 for your support in the promotion of the event. A special thank you to the HFM staff who gave up so much of their time recording interviews and their enthusiastic behind the scenes effort. The Mayoral Bushfire Appeal is ongoing, and it is heart-warming that Highland FM 107.1 is able to contribute so strongly to the fundraising effort in support of our community.

A great day at Berrima
What a great day for the shires Australia Day celebrations in Berrima! When we first contacted Richard Lane and asked him would the Wingecarribee Vocal Muster like to perform on Australia Day the answer was a resounding yes. At that time the concert was a going to be purely entertainment for the days festivities. However it morphed into a wonderful opportunity for the Vocal Muster and the Berrima Courthouse to thank our local RFS and to make the concert a focus point on the day. Those that were privileged to be there can testify to what a great day it was on all counts. And on behalf of the Berrima Courthouse trust we are pleased to have procured such a vibrant and talented group and turned the day into some thing memorable and special. One that will be remembered on many positive levels.

Smoke in the Highlands
The smoke is so thick the air is dense,
It's hard to see beyond the fence,
The grass is dry and turning brown,
The trees are drooping to the ground.
Searching for water that is not there,
Not even a drop for the birds to share.
The smoke is making us cough and splutter,
As people complain and start to mutter,
Not knowing how long it is here to stay,
And when all the sneezing will go away.
But somewhere a fire is close at hand,
Destroying homes, the trees and land.
So spare a thought for those in despair,
Who have more to suffer than smokey air.
Their houses are gone, the livestock too,
No toothbrush or pillow, what will they do?
It only takes minutes and it's gone in a flash,
Their life-long treasures are now just ash.
This makes you realise the smoke you can bear,
And with God's love you can help and share.
Giving strength to those who have so much pain,
As they start to rebuild their lost lives once again.
