This is your chance.
Robertson CTC have a range of free activities to get you listening to or even making music during the 2020 Seniors' Festival. It all starts with the chance to try that instrument you have dreamed of playing.
There will be local teachers to demonstrate and you are encouraged have a go. Various instruments will be available to try, including guitar, ukulele, violin, viola, drums, clarinet, flute, saxophone, piano and trombone.
CTC manager Karen Mewes, herself a late starter on an instrument, said that "while fingers may not be as supple as we age there are some advantages to learning as an adult."
"This includes understanding the need for practise and, if retired, having more time to devote to it," she said.
"It is immensely satisfying when you reach each small goal and the benefits for the brain, when learning music, has been shown in so many studies both for young and old. Music keeps the mind active and the heart young.
"Information will also be provided on teachers and community groups where you can meet and socialise as you learn. It really is never too late to learn."
Try an Instrument will be presented on February 13 from 10am to midday.
The initiative is free for seniors and carers and includes morning tea.
This will be presented at the Robertson CTC, 58-60 Hoddle Street, Robertson. Transport is available on request.
