Rural Australians for Refugees (RAR) Southern Highlands will welcome guest speaker Frances Rush to a community event on February 2.
Ms Rush is the CEO of the Asylum Seekers Centre in Sydney and will visit the Highlands to discuss the plight of asylum seekers and refugees in Australia.
She will speak at a local RAR information session about the work her organisation is doing with, and on behalf of refugees and asylum seekers, and the issues that are impacting work in this area.
RAR is a collection of regional groups that support and advocate for refugees and asylum seekers, aiming to raise public awareness, provide practical support and challenge the government's policies.
With many parallels between the two organisations, Southern Highlands people are invited to come along and listen to an expert in the area, and to find from the local RAR volunteers some of the many practical ways you can contribute in the Southern Highlands area.
The RAR meeting is from 2pm-4pm at the East Bowral Community Centre on February 2. There will be plenty of time for questions, and light refreshments will be served.
