There were a number of teams with their numbers affected by the holidays but a smaller competition still took place.
There was only one B grade game played.
The Smugglers made the most of having an extra player in a 10-5 win over the Polar Bears.
The Polar Bears did well to lead 2-1 at the end of the first quarter. The Smugglers couldn't be contained in the second period, as they evaded the Polar Bears defence to score four goals in the period to the Polar Bears one.
This allowed them to take a 5-3 lead into half time. The Polar Bears were feeling the Christmas break and being forced to cover the extra player was a big task.
They did well to hold the Smugglers to 2-1 in the third quarter and 3-1 in the final period for the 10-5 final score.
In A grade the Polar Bears were the ones able to make the most of an extra player as they scored a 9-1 win over an under strength Sharks team. T
he Sharks did very well to restrict the Polar Bears to a single goal in the first quarter. Polar Bears built momentum up as the match progressed and the Sharks energy levels waned, scoring two goals in the second period to lead 3-0 at halftime. The Polar Bears stepped it up in the third period to pile on four unanswered goals to take the lead out to seven.
The Polar Bears dropped a player in the final period to even up the numbers but they were still able to outscore Sharks 2-1 in the last period, for the 9-1 final score.
The Wollongong representative team played a match against the Southern Highlands representative team in preparation for the up coming Country Clubs Championship.
The Championship will be hosted by the Southern Highlands Water polo Club. It will take place over the long weekend this month at Mittagong and Frensham Pools.
The trial gave the Southern Highlands team a great hit out and showed that they will be competitive in the up coming event.
The speed of the game really is taken up a notch and it helped the young Southern Highlands players to have a trial game at this level.
Next weeks games are at Mittagong pool.
