Wingecarribee Shire Council has created a dedicated 1800 Bush Fire Recovery phone number for Highland residents enquiring about bush fire advice and assistance.
Wingecarribee Shire Council's Deputy General Manager Corporate, Strategy and Development Services Mark Pepping said the phone line had been set up in the wake of the most recent bush fire.
"We've now had two separate bush fires damage and destroy properties in as many weeks," he said.
"Residents in both our southern and northern villages have been hard hit."
Mr Pepping said the Bush Fire Recovery phone number would help fire-affected residents quickly access information and assistance.
"This bush fire season is far from over but we know our residents want to start the recovery process as soon as possible," he said.
"We also understand that a lot of people are anxious and also confused with all the different information out there and who best to contact.
"Until this crisis is over dedicated Council staff will man this number to deal with all manner of bush fire queries and help residents get in touch with the relevant government and welfare agencies," Mr Pepping said.
Staff will be able to provide advice on bush fire specific queries including:
- Mayoral Relief Fund/Assistance requests
- Water filling/tank recovery queries
- Planning matters surrounding bush fire recovery
- Bush fire related waste management requests
- Rural Fire Service (RFS) requests for Council assistance
- Infrastructure maintenance requests from bush fire damaged communities
- Coordinating and arranging multi-agency requests, and
- General bush fire recovery requests
"I urge any of our Shire's residents affected by either the Green Wattle Creek or Morton Fires to take advantage of this Council service to learn how they can quickly access information and assistance."
Wingecarribee Shire Council's Bush Fire Recovery phone number is 1800 316 500 and is operational 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Fridays.
Calls to the number after these hours will be attended to the next working day.
