Australian Cricketers Tim Paine and Nathan Lyon visited the Wingello Fire Brigade to thank them for their unforgettable effort in battling last weeks fire.
It was something the cricketers wanted to do and they couldn't wait to show their support.
"Myself and Nathan had the day off and thought it would be a great idea to come out here and say G'day to the firefighters that are doing such a fantastic job," Paine said.
"It's been a big part of what's happening here in NSW and they're doing an excellent job. We just through it would be a great time to come say hello and thank them."
It's been a tough time for Wingello and a visit like this can raise spirits. But it seemed the firefighters were the ones inspiring the sporting stars.
"A lot of people within the community have gone through a real tough time," Paine said.
"It's been a really special day for us to come down and see some of the devastation and the size of the fire that came through. It's been mind blowing.
"When you see the aftermath, you do realise the bravery of our fireman and women who have come out here to try and save lives and property. It's been an unbelievable effort.
"It was really important that we came out here and said thank you."
Commissioner of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service Shane Fitzsimmons thanked the players for coming and looked toward getting communities affected by the fires back on track.
"As much as everyone has to focus on the disaster, what's unfolding and what the risk is, people want normality," Fitzsimmons said.
"They want things to continue. They want focus and pride and that's something we have to make happen as much as we can."
