The fire was upgraded to emergency level at Wombeyan caves and Bullio - with residents advised to take shelter.
The Green Wattle Creek fire is breaking containment lines around Wombeyan Caves and Bullio, northeast of Taralga.
RFS Southern Tablelands operations officer Lachlan Gilchrist said the fire was "growing and running hard."
"We are sending additional resources but we are not confident of success so we are moving into property protection mode," he said.
"We do expect it will impact properties around Wombeyan Caves so we are working very hard. We are just not confident it will stop running under these conditions and that our resources can get around it. People need to leave early."
Properties in the Bullio area are also highly likely to be impacted.
Mr Gilchrist said the northwest winds were fanning the blaze, as expected.
Meantime, crews are also on scene of the Jacqua Creek fire. Again, the RFS cannot contain the blaze due to the topography in the national park.
"We expect it to burn to the southeast and join up with the Currowan fire tonight or tomorrow morning," Mr Gilchrist said.
"That's concerning because it could form another fire front."
One property is potentially under threat. Mr Gilchrist said it is burning away from the community but could "wheel around" to move towards it.
"It's following predictions at the moment and the predictions are dire. We're doing everything we can to protect properties."
