RFS Southern Highlands Team Posted at 0940 on the 4.1.2020
We have been advised by the local Emergency Control Centre that the main Evacuation Centre will now be the Moss Vale Services Club for today
Residents of Alymerton, Braemar, Balaclava, Willow Vale, Mittagong, Welby along Wombeyan Caves Road and Joadja Road have been advised to relocate on January 4 2020.
The latest recommendation comes from the RFS Southern Highlands Team at 10:25 pm on January 3.
Fire activity is expected to increase with the forcecast.
Mittagong RSL and the Moss Vale Services Club are open for residents to go to for the day where tea and coffee etc will be made available.
Bowral Uniting Church will also open their doors on January 4 between 9 am - 12 pm and 2 pm - 5 pm for anyone who has relocated and would like to escape the heat. There will cold drinks, tea and coffee available.
Current Situation
- Dangerous fire conditions are expected tomorrow. These fires pose a serious threat to life. Do not be in the path of these fires. View the fire spread prediction map here.
- Only properties that are designed, prepared and actively defended to the highest standards offer protection during extreme fire danger conditions. Only stay if you are physically and mentally prepared.
- If you plan to leave, leave early. Go to safer place such as a larger built up town.
- Firefighters continue working to strengthen containment lines across the fireground.
- Fire activity may increase in local areas dependant on terrain and local weather conditions.
Advice
Wombeyan Caves, Tallygang Mountain, Goodmans Ford
- Fire activity has eased, however the fire is still active in this area.
- Monitor conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.
Areas north and west of Mittagong, including Rock Lilly, Barralier, and Wombeyan Caves Road
- Leave fire prone areas tonight. Go to a larger built up area.
- Only properties that are designed, prepared and actively defended to the highest standards offer protection during extreme fire danger conditions. Only stay if you are physically and mentally prepared to do so.
- Know what you will do if the fire threatens.
- The fire has crossed the Wombeyan Caves Road to the west of the Wollondilly River junction, in the Tallygang Mountain Road area.
Alpine, Aylmerton, Willow Vale, Braemar, Balaclava, Mittagong, Bowral, Berrima, Woodlands and Mt Gibraltar areas
- Monitor the changing conditions. Know what you will do if the fire threatens.
- Stay alert for embers and spot fires.
- Follow the advice from firefighters in the area.
Yanderra, Hill Top, Buxton, Yerrinbool and Colo Vale

Balmoral Village, Nattai, Pheasants Nest, Couridjah, Thirlmere, Tahmoor, Bargo, Oakdale, Lakesland, Silverdale, Warragamba, The Oaks, Belimbla Park, Werombi, Orangeville, Theresa Park and Brownlow Hill
- The fire has passed through the area. There may still be unburnt areas and active fire.

- Do not be in the path of the fire.
- Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
- If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
- If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
- If you are in an area that has already been affected by fire, there may be small areas of active fire burning for some time. Be aware of the dangers of trees and branches falling.
