Founder 19-year-old Declan Veness jumped on the opportunity to open a gelato bar in Bowral.
"Everyone likes gelato," he said.
"It's coming into Summer and the opportunity was there."
The bar offers 19 flavours of gelato with two to three types of sorbet available. The award-winning flavours are continually changing.
Declan encouraged people try the banana flavour, his favourite, to cool down on hot afternoons.
Declan graduated from Chevalier College in 2018.
After working at Bunnings all year he finally saved enough money to start this ice-cool venture.
The business is environmentally conscious with bio-degradable spoons and cups available.
Sweet Retreat Gelato has a relaxed, friendly environment to socialise with friends and family with ample parking.
Sweet Retreat will also hold 'happy hour' on week days between 3:30pm and 4:30pm within school terms.
Sweet Treat Gelato is open Wednesday to Sunday from 12:30pm to early evening at The Mill in Bowral on the corner of Bundaroo Street and Bong Bong Street.
Robertson Cheese Factory
The old Robertson Cheese Factory building has been in the same hands for more than 30 years.
On November 1 it was sold to a new couple, Frank and Gail Davlouros from Wollongong.
The business will continue to stock a great selection of Australian cheeses and Southern Highlands goodies in the dairy store. The new owners have plans to introduce new areas and product lines .
They will redevelop the existing range of Robertson Cheese Factory jams, preserves and chutneys, which are all homemade. They also plan to make delicious gelato on site from local organic milk and are planning to wholesale this new brand throughout the Southern Highlands and surrounds.
The Robertson Cheese Factory is located at 107 Hoddle Street in Robertson.
