The group had intended to gather for a Christmas party at Nepean Dam picnic grounds, but this was hindered by a total fire ban on the day which resulted in the closure of the area.
However, the generosity of club members Alan and Jenny Birse enabled the celebration to be relocated.
The couple welcomed 27 members of the group to their Thirlmere home for a day of festive fun and the chance to celebrate the end to the 2019 bushwalking season.
The day was a resounding success with praise for the hosts who "did the barbecue to perfection". This was accompanied by a large and wonderful variety of nibblies, salads and sweets which ensured that no-one was left hungry.
Apparently the word among group members is that "unfortunately, Santa didn't turn up because he didn't receive the secretary's email about the change of venue!"
