Described as interesting and educational, Birds are Intelligent is Mr Bicknell's third published book.
His book features 48 different poems, which has been illustrated by Southern Highlands artist, Jacqui Brown.
"I learnt that birds are intelligent from being an orchardist," he said.
"They were pests.
"Now they are a treat to watch it in the garden."
Mr Bicknell's poetry was inspired by a blue wren he saw one in a painting.
"I woke up with a poem in my head in the wee hours of the night," he said.
"Before I knew it, I had 48 more.
"There's a lot of humour in to the poems. They're a little off beat and there's some information next to them.
"They are interesting and educational."
Artist and illustrator, Ms Brown said she was extremely excited for her work to be published alongside Mr Bicknell's poetry.
"Selling art work was rather hard," said the young mum.
"I was thinking of giving up.
"Now the kids are settled in and I can fit [art] in again."
One of Ms Brown's favourite birds to illustrate was Black Throated Finch.
For Mr Bicknell his favourite illustrations included the Indian Mynar and Lament Silver Eyes, all though if he had to pick a favourite bird, he couldn't.
"I like them all," he said.
Mr Bicknell's two other books that have been published are 'Twelve years in "care"- a British migrants story', and 'Birds and Words'.
Mr Bicknell will launch his book at Picton Library on December 12. The event will be held The View Room, on level 1 between 4 - 5 pm. The event is free but bookings are essential. You can book here to attend.
