The Southern Highlands Storm senior rugby league team are a recently merged team consisting of Moss Vale Dragons and Bowral players, and now they've just appointed their first ever head coach.
Steven Baines is a man that has a deep, rich history in the game of rugby league and can't wait to share his wealth of knowledge. It's also a great opportunity to be a part of something on the rise.
"It's good to be a part of something new," Baines said.
"With the discussions that I've had with the committee, everything is heading in the right direction. It'll be great to work with all the local lads."
It's still early days, but the camaraderie within the Highlands Storm is something usually only seen within a heritage team.
"The future of this club is looking very bright," Baines said.
"It's still early stages, but everything is looking really good. Mark Williams is doing a fantastic job, as well as the whole committee. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a whole lot of movement in the Group 6."
Securing the position of the Storm's first ever coach could be a daunting opportunity for some, but with Baines portfolio, he's looking like an excellent selection.
"I played locally and kicked off in 1989," Baines said.
"I then went and played in the Canberra competition for Goulburn. I've also been overseas and played for New Zealand club sides. I was in the Warriors too.
"I've been around the game a whole lot."
Other teams will have to play their best to beat us.
- Steven Baines.
Being the Storm's first ever coach, Baines will be setting the tone for years to come. It may be a simple philosophy, but it's shaping to be a great start for the Storm with his next season outlook.
"My main focus will be to get the local boys to play hard for the team," Baines said.
"It's an old cliche', but I do want everyone to play for one another and be on the same page."
It can take time for new teams to find their identity and find success, but Baines has a main goal he wants to be fulfilled next season.
"I don't have too many expectations for the season," Baines said.
"My main goal for the season is to prove to the other sides in the competition that, yeah we may be a new club, but we're not going to be pushovers.
"Other teams will have to play their best to beat us."
Recently leaving a powerhouse team within the Group 6 competition, Baines will be bringing that knowledge to the club and implementing culture, hard work and respect for the Storm jersey.
"We'll be keeping our playing style basic," Baines said.
"I was at Picton for the past two years. People will say that Picton have the money to buy better players, but realistically their players are locals that want to play for the jersey.
"That is what I want to bring to the club. The players will need to want to play for the club. I learnt a lot with my past two years at Picton and I'll bringing everything I learnt there to the Southern Highlands."
Just like the Picton players playing for their jersey and getting opportunities to grow, Baines will keep that same attitude, but will also leave the door open for talent interested in joining the club.
"We'll be building through local talent," Baines said.
"We will have a nucleus of Moss Vale and Bowral players to build around. We won't be poaching players, but if players from other teams want to play for this up coming great club, they'll know where to find us.
"We'll open the doors wide open for them and they'll be more than welcome to come play for the Storm."
