Highlands Miniature Railway will return to Moss Vale Showground on November 23. This popular attraction will run from 9.30am to 2.30pm (weather permitting) and will be located in the far eastern corner (the Robertson end) of the showground. There are expected to be several trains running and new members are welcome. The group is looking for people who can help with track laying and maintenance of the grounds. Learn more about 'Porcelain through history' at the next Royal Society lecture on November 21. Woodfirer, teacher and kiln designer Steven Harrison will share his expertise at the lecture to be held at Mittagong RSL Club from 6.30pm. Mr Harrison, who lives in Balmoral Village, set up the Loopline Pottery with Janine King in 1977. He has also custom built more than 300 kilns. The Mittagong lecture is open to all interested people and entry is $5 for members, $10 for non-members and teachers and students are free. Following the lecture there will be dinner with the speaker which is open to members and non-members.

Moss Vale Evening CWA will hold its next coffee and craft morning on November 22. Australian Conservation Foundation is looking back in time to raise funds and awareness for the future. The national environment organisation will present an old classic in a fundraising movie night on November 27. An independent, non-partisan organisation ACF advocates clean air and water and for a world forests, rivers, people and wildlife can thrive. Its work is entirely funded by donations. The Highlands community will have the chance to show support for the organisation and take a journey back in time when Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kids screens at the Empire Cinemas. Every Friday morning between 10am and midday the foyer of the Mittagong Anglican Church is open to the public for free morning tea. The church's professional barista knows how to make one of the best coffees in town. A professional counsellor offering free support is also available.
