This is according to Southern Highlands Police acting officer-in-charge Dave Williamson.
Inspector Williamson said there would be an increased police presence on our roads in the coming weeks.
Officers will target main roads along the Hume Highway and the Illawarra Highway.
There will also be an increased presence on connecting back roads including but not limited to Bowral road, Sheepwash Road, Berrima Road, Kangaloon Road and Golden Vale Road.
"Police are targeting both speed and alcohol-related offences, in a wider crackdown to reduce road incidents and trauma," Inspector Williamson said.
"Road users are asked to be mindful of the designated speed limits."
Inspector Williamson said another issue motorists needed to be aware of was an increase in wildlife around roads due to the drought.
"Be aware at dawn and dusk and reduce your speed. a number of accidents been due to motorists hitting wombats and roos," he said.
"We're going to increase our tasking to maintain high visibility."
The Southern Highlands Police operation will be supported by the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.
