Stop to remember
Australians are justifiably proud of our Australian Defence Force current serving members and our veterans. On November 11 at 11.00am, this and every year, I encourage all Australians to pause for a minute's silence and remember all those who have suffered and died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Every year we mark Remembrance Day because it was at this time and date in 1918 that the guns fell silent on the Western Front, officially ending the First World War. Originally known as Armistice Day, this day reminds us to pause and remember those who served in the 'war to end all wars' and every conflict and peacekeeping mission since.
We especially honour the more than 102,000 Australians who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and the freedoms we enjoy today. Remembrance Day is commemorated in towns, cities and local communities across Australia and overseas and I encourage everyone to attend a service and wear a red poppy in memory of our servicemen and women.
Thank you for your service. Lest we forget.

Praise for a high school
Though a patron of our local art scene I did not appreciate some scallywag painting graffiti on my street fronting garage wall recently. As my house is very close to Bowral High School I wagered it may have been one of its students, perhaps feeling anguish with the HSC.
Within days of my contacting the principal, the 'artwork' was crosschecked and noted not to be from a previous aspiring new Banksy.
Despite the school's lack of culpability, with my permission someone was sent across to clean off the graffiti, doing such good work they may get the contract to repaint the whole garage! So how good is all that? ot only do I live close to a great school (the one my dear husband Ted went to as it happens) but I get free paint jobs!

Stop the squeaking
Can something be done about the squeaky, squawky carriages on the diesel trains that run between the Southern Highlands and Campbelltown (and the one express to and from Sydney Central).
May I suggest an engineer and a politician or two ride in these carriages and hear for themselves the ridiculous noises we passengers endure. Surely a few squirts of oil in appropriate places would solve the problem? The noise is ridiculous!
