On Saturday, October 12 at the Bowral Bowling Club the fours championship got under way and the match of the round being Noel Fraser, Jim Neely, Oscar Whalin and Carl Spilker defeating Don Coleman, Harold Wall Robin Staples and Mike Holmwood 21-17.
Team Holmwood never put a bowl wrong in the first seven ends and had a 7-2 lead.
It was then team Spilker starting to get into the match and after 11 ends they had got into a 10-9 lead.
During the second half of the match team Spilker definitely played the better shots and held a 19-11 lead with three ends to play.
Team Holmwood put up a fight on these ends, but it was team Spilker going into the next round winning by four shots.
Gordon Lewis, Dennis Beatty, Stephen Della and Ashley Lewis defeated Kel Limbrick, Rick Reynolds, Brian Payne and Mick Flynn 31-14.
Team Lewis made their intentions known early going for shots that had them leading 23-2 after 11 ends.
Team Flynn had a piece of good play towards the finish, but team Lewis moved comfortably into the next round.
Peter Watson, John Edmonds, Brian Porter and Peter Morales defeated Dave Riddell, Graham Hunt, Steve Day and Bob Edwards 23-13.
This match was the greatest upset in the round with team Edwards being warm favourites to win .
Team Edwards had a 11- 8 lead at the half way mark and they were expected to go on and win.
With a big turn around in the second half of the game and as they say keep bowls close and you will win, team Morales did just that and took the lead and never looked like losing .
They moved onto the next round full of confidence.
Social result:
Joel Hunt, Barry Werfel and Richard Denman defeated Bill Pope, Paul Rubie and John Cummins 13-6.
Social bowls are played on Wednesday and Saturday afternoon.
Wednesday the dress is mufti while Saturday the dress is pennant uniform or whites. Both days games commence at 1.00pm. Visitors are welcome to join these games.
