Royal Society
The physics of the Mind: Exploring sentience, freewill and morality will be the discussion topic at the next Royal Society meeting on October 17. Rocket scientist and university lecturer Dr Ian Bryce will speak at the meeting to be held at Mittagong RSL Club. This presentation will cover the four basic forces of physics explaining, at a fundamental level, everything going on in the universe. Yet arising from that we see brain function, consciousness, freewill, religion, and all belief systems. The presentation will begin at 6.30pm in the Carrington Room at the Mittagong RSL. Doors open at 6.00pm. Entry is $5 for member, $10 for non-members and Teachers and students free. Following the lecture, there will be a dinner with the speaker, open to all members and non members.

4K's Gents lunch

Red Cross luncheon
Moss Vale/Berrima Red Cross are ready for a day of racing fun on November 5. The group will hold its annual Melbourne Cup Day luncheon and guests are encouraged to don their hat or fascinator and join in the fun fundraiser. The event will be held at the Moss Vale Golf Club and tickets will cost $40 which includes a two course meal. Funds raised will go to projects supported by the Red Cross. Feather flower workshop
Master Craftsman and Milliner Peggy Stone is supporting Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens with a Feather Flower Workshop onsite at SHBG on November 3 from 10am to 1pm. Every Friday morning between 10am and midday the foyer of the Mittagong Anglican Church is open to the public for free morning tea. The church's professional barista knows how to make one of the best coffees in town. A professional counsellor offering free support is also available. Come and join the group and make new friends in a relaxed and warm environment. St. Stephens Church is on the corner of Station and Main Streets and has been reaching out to the community for more than 140 years.

Bereavement support
Southern Highlands Bereavement Care Service Suicide Bereavement Support Group is held on the first Tuesday of each month. This is facilitated by bereavement counsellors Donna and Jo-Anne. This group will be ongoing and held from 6.30pm to 8.00pm each month in Bowral. If you are living with grief after the suicide death of a family member or friend, you are encouraged to come along to the group. Meetings are held at in Bowral at a location yet to be advised. Scottish dance
Would you like to learn more and improve your balance, stimulate your mind, enjoy the music and learn jigs, reels and strathspeys? Southern Highlands Scottish Dancers are keen to share their skills with others. All dances are walked through first and new dancers are welcome. The group meets at Moss Vale Uniting Church hall each Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. A fee of $6 is charged and a light supper is provided. Summer fair
Plans are underway for the Warrigal Summer Fair to be held at 20 Hill Street, Bundanoon, on November 10. This will run from 9.30am to 3pm. Tables are for hire for $35 so that people can sell their bric-a-brac or Christmas craft or other goodies.
