Each year we send a team to work with the local people in one of our near neighbour countries to advance the goals of Rotary Australia World Community Service in improving health, education, sanitation and water supply.
We raised $9,500, including a grant from the Rotary Foundation, other donations and our club funds, for the purchase of water tanks, pump, septic tank and timber, plumbing materials, paint and other essentials. Home Hardware Moss Vale generously donated hand tools, which we used and left with the school.
When we arrived, the school community had already poured the concrete floor slab, built most of the block walls, installed the roof of the toilet block and started the septic tank pit.
With the help of the head master and local folk we enlarged the hole from big to enormous to fit the septic, and rendered the walls.
Over 10 working days we fitted out a shower alcove and five toilets with pans, flushing cisterns and lockable doors, installed gutters, water storage, pump and header tank, water supply plumbing, sanitary drainage and septic system and painted the whole thing.
If you would like to support our overseas project work, tax deductable donations are always welcome. Call 0409 440 180 for information.
