After a competition to name the crane at Bowral and District Hospital, a St Michael's Mittagong student came out on top.

Member for Wollondilly Nathaniel Smith unveiled the name for the 38.8 metre crane on October 9.
The crane which graces the Bowral skyline is an integral part of the $65 million stage one redevelopment of Bowral and District Hospital.
"The name Rakhi was submitted by Mannat Kaur, aged 12, from St Michael's Mittagong," said Member of Wollondilly Nathanial Smith.
"The name has its origins in Hindi and means bond of protection. It is symbolic of the role that the hospital plays in assisting and protecting those who are ill," he said.
"There has been a competition held for local school children to come up with a name for the crane, which is now a part of the Bowral skyline.
"The competition gave locals a chance to be involved.
"There have been 84 separate entries received from all schools in the local area.
"The choice of the winning name was a difficult one, but in the end the winner showed that little bit of extra creativity in the name."
Second place went to Ruby Francis, aged 8, St Michaels Mittagong - Crane's name: Oscar the Crane and Third place went to Nicholas James, aged 7, Bowral Public School - Crane's name: The Bowral Buzzard.
The winning name is now printed on a banner and flown from the side of the crane while the crane remains on site.
Mr Smith thanked ADCO constructions for donating the prizes and congratulated all of those who had submitted entries to the completion.
Mr Smith also thanked those who are involved in the construction and was impressed by their skill and diligence.
The Hospital redevelopment includes:
- A new Emergency Department
- Two new theatres and one procedure room
- A new main entry
- A new maternity unit and paediatric unit
- Integrated ambulatory care strategies incorporated into inpatient services
- Linkways and connections back to existing buildings and supporting services in the retained buildings
Construction on the new clinical services building is expected to be completed in late 2020.
Mr Smith looked forward to the completion of Stage One and the move to the Stage Two development, for which he secured $55 million in this year's State budget.
This is a total of $120 million that has been allocated to the Hospital redevelopment by the NSW Liberal/ National Coalition Government.
