There is a greater need in our community than ever before, with an ever-increasing and larger number of homelessness and domestic violence, and families not being able to meet their daily needs, pay their rent or bills.
There are many groups that support these needs, such as the Salvation Army, Dignity and Soul Warmers, to name just a few.
All these organisations need our support and the business community needs to get behind the groups, supporting the needs of the community.
The expectations by the community on the business sector have changed over the past decade, and there is a greater expectation that businesses, both public and private, serve a social purpose and demonstrate a social conscience.
One way business can become more involved in the community is to have a social conscience policy and plan to offer assistance for those in need in our community.
The plan would establish your intention, strategies and a budget for funding your plan.
To become more involved in the business sector and to discuss these and other issues, come to one of the chamber's networking events.
They are held on the third Thursday of each month, so keep a watch on times and venues by following us on LinkedIn or Facebook.
