Southern Traffic Group police detected a 37-year-old man driving a BMW 3 series travelling at 172hm/h in the 110km/h zone.
The driver was travelling in a southbound direction on the Hume Highway at Mittagong at about 4pm on Saturday.
The man was stopped and escorted into Mittagong town centre where he was issued with a traffic penalty notice for for exceed speed - over 45kph - $2482 and six demerit points.

The man's licence was suspended for a period of six months.
As the driver was the registered owner of the vehicle, the vehicle's registration plates were confiscated for a period of three months.
