The procession, which was brimming with lit up umbrellas, started at Glebe Street, Bowral and ended at Corbett Gardens.
The crowd was greeted to the familiar sounds of 'Let's Fly a Kite', 'Chim Chim Cher-ee' and everyone's favourite 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' as they filtered in to the gardens for the opening night with the smell of barbecued sausages and fresh doughnuts lingering in the air.
Police officer-in-charge Inspector John Klepczarek, who walked in the parade, said that the atmosphere was amazing.
Isabella Lane tourism coordinator for Destination Southern Highlands said that the inaugural walk was absolutely fantastic.
"We were stunned and amazed at how many people turned up at the Mary Poppins statue at Glebe Park and walked in the twilight procession to Corbett Gardens," she said.
"There was plenty of entertainment and [this year's charity of choice] Variety put on a sausage sizzle.
"It was a lovely atmosphere."
An open air cinema will be on October 2 and will show Mary Poppins Returns, featuring Emily Blunt at 7pm. Gates will open at 6 pm and associated costs will go towards Variety.
Tulip Time will be on from September 24 to October 7.
